Mary Cheney Speaks Out

I think the Vice President is being a big pussy by not condemning homophobe chatterbox James Dobson and his Focus on the Family organization, and hope Mary Cheney will make a statmentent as well. I get this feeling that he and grandma are not as hateful on gay issues as they sometimes appear to be. Maybe some day we will read it in a Cheney memoir / book. Some Republicans get it -like Barry Goldwater, or Gerald Ford. I wish both were still around today. Barry Goldwater would be rather outspoken and a good PFLAG coach for VP and Grandma Cheney.

If Wolf Blitzer is so out of line to mention the whole thing, isn't it highly hypocritical Mr. VP to shut Blitzer down on CNN but not go ballistic on the source of the publicity -- James Dobson and his organization. I think my conservative parents would suggest that Mr. Dobson go f*&k himself, but then they are not so uptight about my gayness. More Hypocracy.

...and Mary Cheney and Heather Poe will be just as good at parenting as Rev. Rick Scarborough of Texas based Vision America - I guarantee it!

Rick Scarborough slanders HBO and Alexandra Pelosi

Hey Mr. Pastor of Hate SBC Baptist buffoon Rick Scarborough of Vision America in Lufkin, Tx. or Nacogdoches, Tx, or wherever you are today spreading your Gospel of Hate:

Here sir is the definition of the word "slander":

  • words falsely spoken that damage the reputation of another.
  • an abusive attack on a person's character or good name.

There is nothing "good" in your character, nothing "false" in Nancy Pelosi's daughters HBO account of how crazy you lunatic Baptist extremists are. We voted you OUT. Go Away!

Vision America Rejects HBO's Slander of Evangelicals

NACOGDOCHES, Texas, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Vision America

President Reverend Rick Scarborough today expressed dismay and objection to HBO's supposed documentary on evangelical Christians, "Friends of God,"which premiered on January 25 and will run at various times through themonth of February.Scarborough is one of the evangelical leaders appearing in thedocumentary."'Friends of God,' is about what you'd expect from a cable networkwhich most serious minded evangelicals do not even allow in their homes,
due to the content of its programming," Scarborough declared.

The special, directed by Alexandra Pelosi (daughter of House SpeakerNancy Pelosi), focuses on every oddity imaginable -- including "Christianwrestling" and "Christian miniature golf" -- to make 80 million Americansfrom all walks of life seem freakish."I wasn't even aware that such things existed until someone alerted methat I was in the documentary and I began investigating it," Scarborough said.

Scarborough observes: "I was also troubled by the subtle camera techniques which made Christians look less than normal, framed in the context of a primary emphasis on Dr. Ted Haggard, who resigned as president of the National Association of Evangelicals and was dismissed as senior pastor of his church. Haggard, who resigned his post amidst scandal, was
interviewed longer than anyone else. Was Pelosi implying that we are all hypocrites?

"If you choose to watch 'Friends of God,' understand that what you're seeing is an attempt to denigrate evangelical Christians. Take it for what it is -- a cleverly packaged assault, designed to undermine the valuablecontributions to our country of 80 million Bible-believing Americans,"
Scarborough cautioned.

Rick Scarborough Has It Wrong Again

Or, maybe Rick misrepresents his numbers! Considering his pathetic website ranking numbers on Alexa.com, that would be my guess. Or, maybe mainstream Christian America is a little more liberal than he thinks. They are just sick and tired of this new push for preachers to stop doing good things for the world and get into politics/ form another non-profit company/ overpay themselves / hire a public image departement. Maybe guys like Rick Scarborough should just shut up and go back to their narrow minded SBC Baptist Churches and concentrate on their Bibles....or go feed the homeless in America, or go teach the World about the Jesus Christ the rest of us know and appreciate. Just go away Rick Scarborough, shut the doors of your Vision America in Lufkin, stop preaching hatred, and take a pay cut and live off less than the hundreds of thousands of dollars in salary and benefits and cars you pay yourself while preaching this Gospel of Hate!

Rick Said It: link from http://www.rightwingwatch.org

Rick Scarborough, a key organizer of politically-charged “Patriot Pastors,” claimed
Bush was beholden to the Religious Right to take up their causes:
While the president spoke, I couldn’t help but groan inwardly as I reflected on the
squandered opportunities of the past six years of a "conservative" majority. As
he concluded his remarks with “God Bless,” it dawned on me that the speech
didn’t contain even a passing reference to the issues that sent millions of
Christians to the polls in 2000, 2002 and 2004 - making Bush a two-term
president and giving his party a majority in Congress for six years - the first
time in more than half-a-century that Republicans controlled the presidency and
both Houses of Congress. Whatever else they voted for….Values Voters did not
turn out in past elections so their concerns could be ignored the day after the
election. Is it any wonder that so many us stayed home last November?

Deb Price on Don't Ask Don't Tell -

Amazing Editorial by the amazing Deb Price on Don't Ask Don't Tell. Click here to read it

Prediction. In the next few years expect a reversal of "Don't Ask Don't Tell!"

As completely insulting as it is to gay folks to choose a time when we in the middle of a war with a tab approaching a trillion dollars and body bags stacking up on every street corner in Baghdad , the time is now to end the ridiculous Clinton era shaft and official "thanks for your support"" legislation "don't ask don't tell just lie" in the military.

The millions we have spent driving out some of our country's most neeeded, talented, and highly educated linguists (a very high percentage who happen to be gay or lesbian!) is nothing short of shameful.

Of course this will drive the religious extremist nuts like Rev. Rick Scarborough at Lufkin, Texas based Vision America and James Dobson crazy - it might even cause nutbag Rev. James Kennedy at Coral Ridge Ministries to blow a heart valve down in Fort Lauderdale --but rest assured when the going gets tough the military just might realize that soldiers are soldiers, and being forced to lie about who you are is not way to start any job anywhere.

Chicago Tribune Editorial:

The Chicago Tribune called for an end to "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," saying, "Most measures that could be taken to add more troops would take several years to make a difference. By that time it's not at all clear we'll need them. But eliminating "don't ask, don't tell" would have an impact right away. And it would remove, finally, the cruel and unfair burden placed on gay patriots who are forced to lie about who they are for the privilege of serving their country."

Rev's Otwell Rick Scarborough Connection

Rev. W. N. Otwell is an East Texas kook racist preacher from Mt. Enterprise, Texas. His cult family stands with Fred Phelps at many funerals, etc. So what is the W. N. Otwell connection to Rev. Rick Scarborough other than they live a few miles apart from each other?
1. They both are preachers
2. They both are Baptists
3. They both preach hate
4. They both oppose stem cell research
5. They both live in East Texas
6. They attend, organize, and are arrested at each others' ten commandments rallies.
7. They both are UN-Christian

The Otwell clan (might we say cult!?) was arrested at the Rev. Rick Scarborough Vision America rally in Alabama to support their mutual buddy and fellow idiot Roy Moore. Click the link for more information on their crazy ideas in the blog post titled "Hating in the Name of God." It is excellent.

"Four days after the Oklahoma City bombing, at a national Christian Identity gathering in Missouri, W.N. Otwell, who runs an armed compound in east Texas, spoke. "You go look in the Old Testament," he said. "God did not mind killing a bunch of women and kids. God talks about slaughter! Don't leave one suckling! Don't leave no babies! Don't leave nothing! Kill them!" Sadly, he's quite correct; that is indeed God's message."

Mainstream Baptist on Rick Scarborough

Richard Land and Richard Rick Scarborough =narrow minded bigot lobbyists
###

Link from: http://mainstreambaptist.blogspot.com

"Underwood was reponding to criticisms by Richard Land and Rick Scarborough who have tried to discredit the New Baptist Covenant by charicaturizing it is as a movement within the Democratic party rather than as a movement within the Kingdom of God.

Land and Scarborough were both leading organizers of efforts to take over
the SBC. They were also leading organizers of efforts by the Religious Right to
take over the GOP. The Religious Right has taken over the GOP. Land and
Scarborough are both leading organizers of thinly disguised get-out-the-vote campaigns for Republican candidates. It is natural for Land and Scarborough to
equate movements of Baptists with secular politics. They have been doing it for
more than thirty years.

Carter has been working to unify Baptists for years. SBC leaders have often
been participants in dialogue sessions with Carter discussing that goal in the
past. Carter's desire for Baptist unity has nothing to do with secular politics.

Bill Clinton is a Baptist, a fact that SBC leaders readily acknowledged when they were calling for his church to exercise discipline over him for marital infidelity during his presidency.

Long before Clinton got involved, SBC leaders made it clear that they have no concern for Baptist unity. Instead, they incessantly deny the spiritual
fidelity of any and all Baptists who do not share their goal of unifying the GOP around the "Christian Nationalist" political agenda of the Religious
Right."

Rick Scarborough calls Stem Cell Research "Cloning to Kill"

Rick titled his book "Liberalism Kills Kids" --so now Liberals and Stem Cells Kill Kids?

Or, might it just be possible sir that you are killing our kids, or our kids future kids? Yes you Rev. Rick Scarborough and Vision America in Lufkin, Texas and other misguided parents of the extremist, fundamentalist, new Texas GOP, holy roller, SBC Baptists, preachers who fail to support medical research persuasion. Yes, stem cell research just might someday soon save a life of a kid.

With all respect to my dad and especially my mom who hates this phrase "JUST SHUT UP!" One of the most promising studies to save future humans of the terminal horrible cancer which afflicts him involves embryonic stem cells.

Brownback Says He Can Win Presidential Nomination in '08
Thursday, December 14, 2006
By: Rick Scarborough

Christians may have a champion in next Presidential election

Kansas Senator Sam Brownback, an ardent pro-lifer and long-time friend of Vision America, has filed papers for an exploratory committee to test the waters for a presidential campaign.

But in an interview with the Topeka Capital Journal, Brownback (who has served 12 years in the House and Senate) says he can win the GOP nomination, despite the higher-visibility candidates in the field. The Senator told the paper, "I think once the candidates’ positions are known on the various topics, I’m going to win this."

He may have been referring to the fact that the four frontrunners for the GOP nomination all have records on abortion that range from awful to open-to-doubt.

New York Governor George Pataki and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani both are pro-abortion. Senator John McCain says he’s pro-life, but wants taxpayers to finance embryonic stem-cell research (AKA: cloning-to-kill).

Outgoing Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney appears to be a recent convert to the pro-life cause. But many activists are skeptical, noting that, as a candidate for governor in 2002, Romney went out of his way to trumpet his support for "a woman’s right to choose."

Over the years, I’ve developed great affection and respect for Senator Brownback, who was the recipient of Vision America’s "National Hero of The Faith Award" in 2005, for his solid stands for faith and family and his defense of the unborn. In years past, this award has gone to such outstanding Americans as former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, Congressman Walter Jones and former Attorney General John Ashcroft.

The Senator was scheduled to speak at Vision America’s "The War On Christians And The Values Voter in 2006" conference, but was prevented from doing so by last-minute Senate business.

As a 501-C-3, Vision America takes no position on candidates, other than to educate our members on their records and stands.

Bob Allen
1-23-07
Vision America founder Rick Scarborough turned a "New Baptist Covenant" proposed by former Presidents Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton into a fund-raising pitch, calling it an effort to deceive Christians into believing the Bible is compatible with abortion, gay rights and opposition to Israel.
In a fund-raising letter, Scarborough, a former Southern Baptist pastor in Pearland, Texas, pledged to "expose the lie" that brought religious leaders together Jan. 9 in Atlanta to announce a major meeting early in 2008 to offer an alternative Baptist voice to often-negative messages of the Religious Right.

"Christians, beware!" Scarborough warned. "Scripture itself warns that wolves will approach the flock in sheepskins in order to devour the sheep. Jimmy Carter's gentle nature and Bill Clinton's clever oratory must not be allowed to pull the wool over the eyes of innocent churchgoers. While many may find comfort in snuggling up to such powerful public figures, it is the duty of Godly men to expose the lie that brought together religious and political figures like those gathered at the press conference in Atlanta. With God's help, I intend to do just that."

Scarborough pointed out that a planned mega-gathering "Celebration of a New Baptist Covenant" Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2008 at the Georgia World Congress Center is "not coincidentally" nine months away from the next presidential election. "Perhaps Senator Hillary Clinton will be invited to lecture on honesty in government--or Senator Barack Obama can share his thoughts on abortion," he chided.

Scarborough said the meeting gives the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, "what has to date been a relatively small and modest [SBC] breakaway group" working with Carter and Clinton on the project, "a new lease on life.""The Clinton/Carter movement toward this alliance proves what many conservatives within the Southern Baptist Convention always knew: That theological liberalism always leads to political liberalism--as both begin with the assumption that God’s word is not verifiably true and that man is the center of his own universe," Scarborough said."This new alliance is designed to undermine the moral authority of the church," he continued, "to deceive the public into believing that Christianity is compatible with gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research, a head-in-the-sand foreign policy and the betrayal of Israel."

Scarborough said there is nothing wrong with the image of the Southern Baptist Convention, which has grown some of the largest churches in the world, has seminaries filled with young preachers and supports more than 5,000 missionaries around the world. "I assure you that Vision America is not going to allow this deception to go unchallenged," Scarborough closed. "We are planning a major response the Clinton/Carter press conference. Stay tuned for more information."

The newsletter article includes a link inviting readers to "make a tax-deductible donation to support the ongoing work of Vision America."

Scarborough launched Vision America in 1998 as a national effort to mobilize pastors against moral issues like abortion and homosexual rights. He launched pastor mobilization programs in South Dakota, South Carolina, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas and Missouri. He took a lead role in passing a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage in Texas. His "Patriot Pastors" network numbers about 5,000.

Vision America conducted a Judicial War on Faith National Conference in Washington in 2006, 10 days after the death of Terri Schiavo, and has sponsored two annual conferences on "The War on Christians and Value Voters."

He has been interviewed by The Los Angeles Times, C-SPAN, "The Alan Combs Show," "Point of View," PBS, Bott Radio and "Larry King Live."

While not as well known as Christian Right figures like James Dobson and Pat Robertson, Scarborough has ties with powerful political figures like former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay. He once told the Washington Post, "One of my goals in life is to give the Republican Party courage."

Scarborough wrote recently of his "great affection and respect" for Brownback, who announced Saturday he is running for president in 2008. Vision America gave Brownback its "National Hero of The Faith Award" in 2005. Sen. Brownback was scheduled to speak at Vision America's "War on Christians" conference in 2006 but canceled.

Scarborough told the Dallas Morning News many evangelicals might not vote for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, because of his Mormon faith.

"I would hope most people in the Christian conservative movement are mature enough in their politics not to just write him off because he's a Mormon," Scarborough said. "But I do think that gives a lot of people pause."

Serves them right. And don’t blame our President. It’s moments like these
that make me think the church is dead. Oh, it will go on baptising people,
holding revivals, expressing outrage at the private, consensual actions of
individuals that have no direct bearing on their own rights to life, liberty and
the pursuit of happiness, there will be more Justice Sundays, there will be more
Christian self help best sellers, there will be new and bigger mega churches,
their leaders will continue to hold the Republican Party and the rest of us
hostage to its narrow and bigoted agenda, and on and on. But the church’s heart
and soul, or the lack thereof, is being exposed, subordinated to the demands and
ambitions of conservative politics, commercial empire, and “doctrinal purity”.
Maybe David Brooks will eventually be proven right, that last week was a tipping
point, a deciding moment in the future of the country’s politics, a seminal
event in this nation’s summer of discontent, a symbol of the growing dis-ease in
the country. But if our churches are any indication, the result won’t be a
progressive revival and maybe not even a “centrist” establishment. And that
leaves some other alternatives that I’d rather not contemplate.

More hypocracy from Tupelo, MS based American Family Association. Same false research and marketing used by James Dobson and Rev. I have a dream.

Attn: Rev. Rick Scarborough

Should We Hate Rev. Rick Scarborough?

A repost of my first post - - and what this web blog is all about.

Hometown Memories

Growing up in East Texas I have fond memories of beautiful places like Sam Rayburn Lake, summers at Crystal Beach, and canoeing with my dad on Village Creek. I have been so blessed and lucky in my life to have wonderful supportive parents...parents who back in the early eighties did stuggle with the news of my homosexuality. While home with my father in late 2005, (who had just discovered that he would probably not live another year due to a rare cancer) I was very touched the day my parents ran out to vote AGAINST the ridiculous Texas anti-gay marriage amendment efforts to write discrimination into law. It was very obvious that we [gay peoples] would be clobbered due to the hateful agenda of the right wing Christians [disguised as family men] but I can't say that I have ever been more at home and felt so lucky to have two amazing and supportive parents.

You're always proud of where you came from despite some of the craziness you see around you when growing up. As conservative as my parents were on economic issues, I also found that they were progressive in regards to tolerance and inclusion of other races and religions. Im lucky in that because I know that hate breeds hate. Up until recently I had thought that my [GLBT] community might be only a generation/twenty years or so before most of the old bigoted people of the US were gone - as in D-E-A-D. [as in the Wizard of Oz song Ding Dong the Wicked Witch is DEAD!] Young kids just get it these days, they know gay people as their uncles and aunts and teachers and friends, and also from TV shows and networks like MTV who have done an amazing job to raise awareness about hate and intolerance in America

.I fell asleep early the night of the "stop the gays from marrying" election in Texas without even watching a return only to wake up in the bed in a cold sweat after a dream which included a cast of characters including Matthew Shepard, Paul Broussard, James Byrd, and a few other strangers from my childhood. Byrd was murdered about twenty miles from where I was sleeping, Matthew Shepard a thousand miles away in Wyoming, my sad bipolar Aunt Patsy who died years ago after being sucked into a Christian cult in Pensacola [after the pastor told her that she didnt need her medicine] ; my post college friend Paul Broussard from Houston who was later murdered by teenagers carrying baseball bats in Houston's gay neighborhood Montrose; and a Pentecostal girl who was in my sisters Brownie troop whose name I couldnt recall. It was a random scary dream that got me thinking about all of this hate in the area of Texas where I grew up and in America in general.

After a lot of reading I could confirm something I already knew - that Hate Speech often results in Violence and even murder against the targeted minority group. It really doesn't take a genius to connect the dots of hate in East Texas, or anywhere for that matter. I find it rather embarrassing that East Texas is known to be a bastion of intolerance and home to many white supremcist groups like the KKK of Vidor and Cleveland, Tx.

As a kid I remember that big billboard as you drove into Jasper, Texas on the way to the Lake that read "Jasper, The Jewel of the Forest." Unfortunately little old Jasper, Texas (a city which was one of the least redneck of any of the little towns in East Texas in my opinion ) is now a city (and County) with a major image problem struggling to attract new industry and residents.

Is it any wonder that right wing terrorists shot a hole in the window of Planned Parenthood in Lufkin recently? Lufkin has a new organization named Vision America Mobilized, Inc which is run by a right wing ex Baptist nut preacher named Rev. Rick Scarborough. Scarborough selected Lufkin for his new headquarters, spreads his message to the local Rotary club, and organizes public rallies to save America from activist judges and gay marriages.

Do speakers like Alan Keyes and Scarborough incite violence and gun shot holes into places like Lufkin's Planned Parenthood? Considering the company that they keep, and those they allow to speak and exhibit at their "Christian rallies" - you have to know that the answer here is absoultely, Yes! You just dont allow nationalist right wing folks into you church or conferences Dr. Scarborough who publish and write books adovcating the death sentence for gays and lesbians, or announce that Katrina might be due to America's gays and lesbians and/or jews.

Have you ever noticed how these right wing Christian fundies seem to be so sensitive when labeled homophobic, and how they get so angry when added to a Hate Watch List or being identified as a Hate Group? Have you been sick at your stomach lately when you see them in the news claiming that they are being persecuted in America (hell.... They've taken over and ruined the Republican Party, supposedly have weekly conference calls with President George Bush, have seen GB move literally Billions of dollars in social programs to their fundamentalist, often unlicensed Christian non profits, they control Congress, and on and on.

I just don't get it.Open minded People who consider themselves to be both Christian and Patriotic really should maybe dig a little deeper into these fundamentalist hate groups before they blow the window out of another Planned Parenthood Office, or before their mean spirited rhetoric ends the life of another Matthew Shepard, Paul Broussard, or James Byrd.

Go out and buy a few of Rick Scarborough books at Amazon (..and don't spend more than 0.36 cents on any of the used books if possible) Go out and read "Kingdom Coming" by Michelle Goldberg, which is an excellent read. Do it before these uber right wing nutbag Dominionist preachers disguised as Christian Family men brainwashes the rest of America, before their little army of home-schooled bigots are old enough to vote, before you find yourself living in an America which has declared Christianity as the official and only allowed religion, before you find every public building plastered with the ten commandments, and before they attempt (and it will only be an attempt I can assure you) to crimininalize every aspect of life for GLBT people, or throw us in jail, or attempt to kill or "exterminate" us as did Hitler.

Do it before the children of this Country are brainwashed and taught to hate by these so called Christians, their global TV and radio networks, and their cash heavy non profit organizations. Say yes to Values which support all families and no to the hate campaigns of people and groups like Alan Keyes, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Vision America, Rick Scarborough, Tom Delay, Ralph Reed, the KKK, the Conservative Citizens of America, Rick Santaorum, Ann Coulter, Gary Bauer, Phyllis Schafely, James Kennedy, Exodus Ministries, Love Won Out, the AFA, and their friends.

We need a Better Vision for America without the tired Un-Christian message of these off the chart right wing fools.
