I am sure they both roll over and scream every time their preacher daughter Elder Bernice King comes in from her suburban Atlanta megachurch to pay them a visit or to organize a rally to change our laws and Constitution and legalize discrimination of GLBT people in America.

Does anyone else find it to be rather tacky that Bernice is selling a new DVD on her website which is mostly clips of the Coretta Scott King funeral. Bernice honey you just don't get it.

From Outsmartmagazine.com - this is the best account of Paul's murder in July 1991. I'd call the President but he never supported hate crimes legislation even while in Texas after this murder and the James Byrd murder. The Worst President in US history is not a great advocate for the victims of hate crimes like Paul and their families.

On the night of July 4, 1991, Paul Broussard, a 27-year-old gay banker in Houston, and two of his friends, Cary Anderson and Richard Delaunay, were assaulted as they traversed a parking lot in the Montrose area. Their assailants were 10 youths from the Woodlands, an upscale suburb north of Houston. The boys (all but three were only 17, the eldest was 22) had been cruising the Montrose area earlier that evening, harassing those they presumed gay by throwing rocks at them. With their "queer rocks" as they called them, they had already smashed the windshield of a car and hit a passing man in the mouth. When the attackers encountered the three men, they began by asking for the directions to Heaven, a nearby gay nightclub. Upon being told the directions, the boys leapt out of their two cars and assaulted Broussard and his friends with fists, steel-toed boots, two-by-fours studded with nails, and at least one knife. Broussard’s two friends, Delaunay and Anderson, although injured, managed to escape. Broussard, however, was trapped and subjected to a vicious beating.

As they assaulted Broussard, according to Delaunay, the boys were cheering and yelling wildly, roaring like the crowd in a football game. "We were the football," as Delaunay later said. In the end Paul Broussard suffered multiple cuts and abrasions, a puncture by a nail driven through a board, a broken rib, bruised testicles, three stab wounds–and death. As he lay almost unconscious on the ground with his hand raised as if pleading for mercy or for help, two of the assailants rifled his pockets and took his comb as a "souvenir." Then the boys drove off, still yelling and cheering. As they returned to the Woodlands going north up I-45, the two carloads of assailants drove side-by-side down the highway, leaning out of the windows and slapping palms together in noisy "high-fives." They capped off the evening with a pre-dawn breakfast at a Denny’s restaurant. According to later depositions, it was at the Denny’s that Jon Buice showed a knife to some of the others, and bragged that with it he had "stuck the queer."
After being treated by EMS on the spot, Paul Broussard was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. Although medical and hospital staff did all they could to save his life, in the end the bleeding from the wounds could not be stemmed. Broussard died in the hospital an agonizing eight-and-a-half hours later. Nancy Rodriguez, Broussard’s mother, flew into Houston the next day from Atlanta. She met with the Houston police, along with Richard Delaunay and Carey Anderson. The newspapers originally carried the story as just another murder, an all-too-common occurrence in Houston. However, the gay community was alerted by local activists. Large-scale public protests followed, some in front of the home of the mayor, with Nancy Rodriguez and Queer Nation participating. Due to the resulting media attention, a girl who dated one of the assailants, reacting to a story on Crime-Stoppers, called the police and turned the boys in. Within days, all were arrested.

Although the wheels of justice ground slowly, all were eventually convicted, some with pleas of guilty, others in criminal trial. Jon Buice, who confessed to having wielded the knife that apparently made the fatal wound, received the longest sentence–45 years for murder. Another of the assailants, Paul Chance Dillion, was convicted on one count of attempted murder served concurrently with one count of aggravated attempted murder, and was released March 2000.
Five of the boys received probation or deferred adjudication. Nancy Rodriguez and her family, aided by Andy Kahan, of the Houston Crime Victim's Office, worked with the D.A. on setting the terms–the first time this had been done in Harris County. Sentences included boot camp in summer, 500 hours of community service to the gay and lesbian community in Houston, and attending a Parents of Murdered Children meeting. The court also ordered them to pay for Anderson’s hospital bill and Broussard’s funeral.

The three other primary assailants received 15-year (and one day) prison sentences for their admitted participation in the beatings. At the time of the sentencing, Nancy Rodriguez protested that the sentences for the three were too light. "Nothing is enough," she said. "They’ve been walking around now for 18 months while my son’s been lying in the ground." Brian Bradley of Queer Nation said, "Fifteen years and one day with the possibility of parole in 15 months is not right." Those three with 15-year sentences might serve as little as three years in prison. Jon Buice himself is currently up for parole consideration in 2003, after serving only 12 years of his 45-year sentence.

Sadlly, Two of the killers of Paul are going to be released soon - after only fifteen years in a Texas prison - apparently both are Mexicans and not US Citizens. Since the religious right is so crazy on deporting all Mexican illegals immediately, how about if you and your militias and your border defense clubs start with two of the Murderers of Paul Broussard ?

After fifteen years in Texas prison these two brothers will be released -- since they are not U.S. Citizens lets send their ass packing to Mexico the very day they hit the exit door at the Penitentiary. Maybe had we enforced immigration laws in the first place they wouldn't have been in Texas in the first place.

Two men convicted in 1991 gay killing about to be paroled
Mother of victim requests photos of inmates
HOUSTON (AP) Jan 5, 11:29 AM

The impending parole of two of the people convicted in the 1991 gang beating and stabbing death of a gay banker has prompted the victim's mother to ask for current photos of the men.

Nancy Rodriguez said she wanted the photos so she will be able to recognize them if they should come to her door.

"To be honest with you, I fear for the safety of my family," she said in a story in Friday's Houston Chronicle.

Paul Broussard was 27 when he and two friends were attacked as they left a gay nightclub in the Montrose area of Houston. His friends escaped with minor injuries. Broussard was beaten, kicked and stabbed to death.

Ten teens from The Woodlands were convicted in his death. Five received probation and one has since completed his sentence.

Jaime Aguirre, 34, and his brother, Javier Aguirre, 32, are set to be released later this month. They face deportation to Mexico upon their release but Rodriguez fears they could return to this country. Leandro Ramirez, 32, is to be released on parole in March. Jon Buice, who was sentenced to 45 years, faces a parole hearing in October.

Michelle Lyons, a spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, said Rodriguez will be given the photos she requested.

"We release such photos all the time," she said.

Rodriguez, who now lives in Georgia, has testified at numerous parole hearings in efforts to keep Broussard's attackers in prison.

Andy Kahan, crime victim advocate for the mayor's office, said the Aguirres had been kept in prison as long as possible.

"They were sentenced to 15 years, and they've just about maxed out their time — same with Ramirez," he said.

Gay prison activist Ray Hill said he is trying to stop the Aguirres' deportation.

I know them and I've come to learn that they are not homophobic," Hill said. "I am a gay man; they are friends of mine."

I've read that it was Rev. Rick Scarborough who was in Washington DC to help newly elected Steve Stockman (voted one of the worst legislators in history) after he defeated House legend Cong. Jack Brooks. Instead of the normal pledge and oath, Rev. Scarborough helped Stockman pledge his allegience to the "Christian Flag" - I guess since he thinks Thomas Jefferson had some thought that America is or should be a "Christian" nation.

My Republican parents think that I should have no fear of these Christian fanatics like the Rev Scarborough and Otwell's who even conservative America views as "loonies" with no power. I disagree of course, take a look at the extremist agenda of the Texas GOP, which was once run statewide by normal professional conservatives versus the coalitions of fundamentalist Christian nuts who took over.

Would you support stem cell research had it resulted in a cure for diseases which have affected YOUR family the past few years?

I would love to see a stem cell be tagged as a part of the cure for a nasty cancer called Leiomyoscarcoma which my family has come to know the past year and a half. It is a good reason why you fundie preachers should shut up and let researchers and physcians practice medicine. !

HPV vaccine proposal likely to stir debate Chron.com - Houston Chronicle

A plan requiring sixth-grade girls to be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted virus that causes cervical cancer can expect a flurry of opposition in the Texas Legislature.

Critics contend that bills already filed in both houses would take away parents' rights, send the wrong message to impressionable young girls and cost more than many parents can afford.

"Don't we put seat belts on our kids, helmets on bike riders?" asked state Sen. Leticia Van De Putte, D-San Antonio, sponsor of the Senate bill. "This is one more thing we can do to protect our daughters."

State Rep. Jessica Farrar, D-Houston, the sponsor of the bill in the House of Representatives, said she is hopeful about its chances but not quite optimistic. She said "ideology has prevailed over science" lately.

The bills would require girls to have received the vaccine to enter the sixth grade, but include opt-out provisions.

The vaccine, known under the trade name Gardasil, was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in June, and a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee soon after it was recommended that girls and women 11 to 26 receive it.

The vaccine targets the human papillomavirus, the most common sexually transmitted infection in the country and the cause of nearly all cervical cancers.

Though the infection often clears up on its own, it leads to about 10,000 U.S. cases of cervical cancer a year and 3,700 deaths.

The Reverend Rick Scarborough is a Texas minister with big dreams of the national stage. Welcoming attendees to a recent gathering in Washington, D.C., the stocky ex-college football player said bluntly, “This is perhaps the most important conference in the city of Washington this year.”

The topic of this momentous occasion wasn’t terrorism, the economy, or global warming. Rather, the event, as described by Scarborough, would target “renegade judges who exceed their constitutional authority.”

Bashing federal judges is suddenly all the rage among those who labor to make the United States an officially fundamentalist Christian nation. Seeking to keep ahead of the curve, Scarborough convened the conference in early April under the auspices of his newly formed Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration.

Under the fancy name lies an organization with big—some would say radical—ideas: The federal courts, Scarborough and his supporters argue, have become an unelected, out-of-control oligarchy of black-robed elitists who must be made to give quarter. The conference was designed to find the best way to do that.

“This nation cannot long exist in the vacuum of atheism that is being forced on us by the court,” Scarborough declared.
There is, however, one problem: The United States has long operated under the separation of powers. The three branches of government—executive, legislative, and judicial—are coequal but exercise checks and balances over one another. Thus critics say what Scarborough is proposing is nothing short of a revolution: bringing the courts under the sway of Congress would destroy that delicate balance and strike at a core principle of U.S. government.

None of this fazes Scarborough. To Scarborough and his supporters, issues such as same-sex marriage, abortion, prayer in the public schools, display of religious symbols by government, and others define the national character. They’ve seen many of their legislative efforts in these areas nullified by the courts. Even a Supreme Court with seven of nine members nominated by Republican presidents has failed to produce rulings that please the Religious Right. The answer, they are increasingly saying, isn’t to change the courts; it’s to neuter them.

WASHINGTON, May 24 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration Chairman Rick Scarborough today deplored the so-called compromise which preserves the un- Constitutional, un-democratic filibuster of conservative judicial nominees."

Said Scarborough, "This 'compromise' amounts to a complete capitulation by the 7 moderate Republicans who signed on."

"It allows votes on three nominees, while preserving the permanent filibuster on others," Scarborough declared. "The Senators who struck this bargain have only postponed the day of reckoning, which surely will come when the President seeks to fill anticipated vacancies on the Supreme Court."

Scarborough said the 7 Republican sell-outs are implicitly condoning the left's tactic of using a filibuster to permanently block an up-or-down vote on nominees who fail to meet its standard.

"By a permanent filibuster - which this supposed compromise maintains 'under extraordinary circumstances' - Democrats are still free to indefinitely block any discussion of or vote on conservative candidates for the federal bench," Scarborough charged. "Thus, a minority of Senators will be allowed to continue to derail the democratic process and thwart the will of the American people."

Said Scarborough: "Harry Reid didn't win the last presidential election. Nor did Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, Lindsey Graham or John Warner. When the American people voted for this president they said they wanted him to fill vacancies on the federal bench with qualified candidates."

Scarborough noted, "Historically, the role of the Senate has been to debate nominees, then vote on them - not to indefinitely block a discussion and a vote by use of this illegal device. A minority of liberal Senators have given themselves an un- constitutional veto over the president's candidates for the federal judiciary. Incredibly, 7 Republicans are willing to go along with this."

"The left is shouting for joy and dancing with glee," Scarborough charged. "Senate Minority leader Reid called it a 'significant victory,' while the leader of the National Abortion Rights Action League expressed satisfaction that the filibuster has been 'preserved for upcoming Supreme Court nominations.' And this John McCain and company call a compromise?"

Scarborough urged voters to call their Senators and express their outrage "over this betrayal of democracy, decency and fairness." He pledged that the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration will 're-double our efforts to eliminate the permanent filibuster - now and in the future."

A story in the May 23 issue of Time Magazine profiling Scarborough and other Christian activists, acknowledged his leadership role in the fight to confirm conservative judicial nominees. In April, the Judeo-Christian Council for Constitutional Restoration conducted the widely publicized CONFRONTING THE JUDICIAL WAR ON FAITH Conference in Washington, D.C.

Religious "SaveALife" Hypocracy

Isnt it odd how these right wing preachers attempt to save the baby, save the sperm, save the egg, save the stem cell for Jesus, go the mile for the unborn, whatever; but then in turn oppose stem cell research when their own children are dying of unknown mystery diseases, or abandon their kids. If they don't fight for cures they might be found shunning their gay and lesbian kids.

How tragic. How lacking in "family values" Here are a few of the (*reported) religious or Right Wing Fundies with gay children/relatives who have been ignored, abandoned, or shunned. Alan Keyes with out a doubt earns the TURD of the Year Father award. Why do you guys put out so much effort to save the sperm when you go on to abandon your own?

Approximately 1000 people gathered in Kansas City, Missouri, to hear Catholic Bishop Robert Finn, Ambassador Alan Keyes, Scientist Shao-Chun Chang, MD, PhD, and myself, as we examined the claims of the proponents of Amendment 2 to the Missouri Constitution, as well as the facts of those claim, on Monday evening. To say that the facts do not support the claims is an understatement of enormous consequence to the unborn.

Proponents of Amendment Two, which they refer to as the Missouri Cures Amendment, deny that they are proposing the cloning of human beings, but as Dr. Chang so succinctly proves from science, that claim is a factual lie. Increasingly now, the proponents of this devilish idea are retreating to rhetoric that in effect says, “but the embryo is so small and early that it really doesn’t matter,” an argument which taken to its inevitable conclusion so devalues human life that men of Christian character must oppose it…and we are!

Featured at the rally were one year old twins who were formerly frozen embryos. These two beautiful babies and their proud parents appeared beside President Bush as he vetoed Federal legislation that would have funded embryonic stem cell research, using frozen embryos. Every time an embryo has stem cells extracted, a human being dies. Thankfully these beautiful babies were spared.

The Kansas City Star referred to the rally as part revival, part science lecture and part political rally. That was precisely what we were trying to accomplish. Our rallies include incredible praise and worship, led and orchestrated by one of America’s foremost songwriters and musicians, Kim Noblitt. In that atmosphere of praise and worship, Bishop Finn, of the Kansas City-St. Joseph Catholic Diocese, Ambassador Keyes, and I, each took different tracts to explain why Christians must unify in their opposition to this Amendment. Hearing from a Catholic Bishop, a seasoned and Harvard educated Black politician/diplomat, and a Baptist Preacher diffuses the accusation that this is a Black or White or Evangelical or Catholic or Baptist issue…this is a God issue. One that people of all faiths, color or station in life, should unite around.

Our next rally will be held on September 21 in Springfield, Missouri, at the National Assembly of God headquarters, in the historic Central Assembly of God Church. This rally is shaping up to be the biggest rally yet, with an anticipated crowd exceeding 2500 people. Please pray for us as we continue this effort to move Pastors in Missouri to stand up and speak out against this all out assault on the unborn. Funding has now been provided to conduct another rally in Missouri which will be announced in our next Rick Scarborough Report.

Vision America invited to Rally Pastors in South Dakota

As I prepare this report, I am enroute to Rapid City, South Dakota, where I am scheduled for two days of meetings with significant pastors and leaders around the state, to discuss the possibility of conducting three rallies in key cities in the state, in an effort to stem the assault of pro-abortion forces bent on preserving their all out terrorism against the unborn. Last year, the legislature of South Dakota became the first in the nation to ban all abortions. Unfortunately, Federal laws legalizing abortion trump state bans, but the significance of the state ban lies in the fact that is will certainly precipitate a Supreme Court showdown over the validity of the 1973 “Roe v Wade,” decision which even proponents of abortion on demand agree is bad law and will be overturned, throwing the whole abortion debate back to the states where it belongs. When that day comes, dozens of states will join South Dakota in banning abortion and rescuing children from the cruel fate of the abortionists.

NARAL, Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and other leftist groups who profit from abortions cannot allow that to happen, so they are pouring millions into the overturning of this legislation. And they are winning…but not for long, IF the church, led by her Pastors, gets involved.

That’s precisely why we have been invited to come into South Dakota and work. While I am honored to be invited in, I must discern whether or not this is a calling from the Lord. We are stretched financially and personnel wise by the demands in Missouri, and we will drown as an organization unless we know that God has issued a “Macedonian Call.” (See Acts 16:1-2).

Please make this a matter of sincere prayer as we seek to discern His bidding and do His will, not our own. I greatly depend on the prayers of many of you who faithfully read this Report each week. I will report my findings back to you

Republican talk of "activist judges" is causing death threats against Supreme Court justices

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg said she and former Justice Sandra Day O'Connor have been the targets of death threats from the "irrational fringe" of society, people apparently spurred by Republican criticism of the high court.

Ginsburg revealed in a speech in South Africa last month that she and O'Connor were threatened a year ago by someone who called on the Internet for the immediate "patriotic" killing of the justices.

Security concerns among judges have been growing.

Conservative commentator Ann Coulter joked earlier this year that Justice John Paul Stevens should be poisoned. Over the past few months O'Connor has complained that criticism, mainly by Republicans, has threatened judicial independence to deal with difficult issues like gay marriage.

Worry is not limited to the Supreme Court. Three quarters of the nation's 2,200 federal judges have asked for government-paid home security systems, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales said this week.

Ginsburg said the Web threat was apparently prompted by legislation in Congress, filed by Republicans, that would bar judges from relying on foreign laws or court decisions.

"It is disquieting that they have attracted sizable support. And one not-so-small concern - they fuel the irrational fringe," she said in a speech posted online by the court earlier this month and first reported Wednesday by LegalTimes.com.

According to Ginsburg, someone in a Web site chat room wrote: "Okay commandoes, here is your first patriotic assignment ... an easy one. Supreme Court Justices Ginsburg and O'Connor have publicly stated that they use (foreign) laws and rulings to decide how to rule on American cases. This is a huge threat to our Republic and Constitutional freedom. ... If you are what you say you are, and NOT armchair patriots, then those two justices will not live another week."

Andrew Sullivan to Pastor Ted Haggard

I wish I had the talent of Andrew Sullivan when it comes to writing. How perfect.

"There is part of my life that is so repulsive and dark that I've been warring against it all of my adult life," - pastor Ted Haggard, referring, I suppose, to his homosexual orientation.

For those who still - amazingly - believe that being gay is somehow a "choice," consider Haggard. If he could have chosen not to be gay, don't you think he would have? Even though he apparently believes being gay is "repulsive and dark" (while it is, in fact, just another wonderful way to be human), he still cannot prevail against it. It is integral to him. It has been "all of [his] adult life".
